Reliable Concrete Leveling Services for Marietta, GA, Homeowners

Concrete Leveling Marietta GA

Concrete leveling—also called slabjacking—is a concrete repair method that has been used by foundation repair companies and geotechnical specialists for nearly 100 years. Most homeowners have probably never even heard of this term, but those who’ve encountered a sinking concrete slab at their home in Marietta or a surrounding area might be familiar with it. Here at Engineered Solutions of Georgia, we’ve provided reliable concrete leveling services to homeowners throughout Atlanta and all surrounding areas since our founding in 2006.

How Concrete Leveling Works

Essentially, concrete leveling involves drilling a series of strategically placed holes in an uneven concrete slab and pumping in either a cement mixture or polyurethane foam to raise the slab back up to a level position. Traditional concrete leveling, which is also referred to as mudjacking, uses the cement-like mixture. This mixture contains finely crushed and highly dense limestone aggregate, which is often combined with Portland cement to create a cement slurry. This slurry is pumped through the holes slowly, while being monitored, to ensure that it exerts even, controlled pressure on the sunken concrete slab. Once this substance fills any underlying voids, it will begin to lift the slab back up to a level position.

We also mentioned earlier that polyurethane foam is sometimes used in the concrete leveling process. While traditional mudjacking has been used for more than a century, more recently, a technique called a poly-lift system has been developed. Poly-lift systems essentially work the same way as mudjacking, however, instead of a cement slurry, an expanding polyurethane foam is pumped through the holes to fill the subterranean voids and lift the concrete. While still a newer technique, poly-lift systems are often preferable because the polyurethane foam takes less time to cure than the grout. Also, once it has expanded and hardened, the polyurethane foam is much more resistant to erosion from groundwater than is the grout.

Why Concrete Leveling Works

Concrete leveling is an effective method of repairing damaged concrete and in many cases is even preferable to having new concrete poured. After all, the unleveled concrete probably began to sink because the underlying soil was shrinking, swelling, or was overly granular. If you were to simply pull up the old concrete and pour down a fresh slab, it would likely fall victim to the same issues over time. However, concrete leveling addresses the cause of the issue—the gaps in the underlying soil—and so is often a more long-term solution than simply pouring new concrete.
